Understanding your rent determination
Rent determinations have been issued to shack site leaseholders on Crown land and in national parks across South Australia.
Your rent determination notice outlines:
- your new annual rent
- when the new rent takes effect
- the review options available if you disagree with the determination
Annual rent is determined through an independent valuation process that assesses the market rental value of each shack site.

Reviewing a rent determination
If you disagree with your rent determination, you can apply for a review.

There are two review stages available under the Crown Land Management Act 2009.
Stage 1 – Review of Market Rent Determination
You may apply for a Review of Market Rent Determination if you disagree with your rent determination.
Applications must be submitted within 28 days of the date of the rent determination notice.

Stage 2 – Valuation Review
If you remain dissatisfied following a Review of Market Rent Determination, you may apply for a Valuation Review.
Applications must be submitted within 21 days of receiving notice of the Minister's decision.

Important information about rent payments
Rent remains payable while a review process is underway unless otherwise advised.
If you have concerns about meeting your payment obligations, contact the DEW Shacks Team as early as possible.
