End‑of‑year meter reading requirement

From the 2025 - 2026 water use year (1 July 2025 to 30 June 2026), water licence holders in:

  • Northern Adelaide Plains Prescribed Wells Area
  • Dry Creek Prescribed Wells Area
  • Kangaroo Flat Prescribed Wells Area

must submit an annual end‑of‑year meter reading to the Water Licensing Branch, Department for Environment and Water.

This requirement has been added as a condition on your water licence.

When to take and submit your meter reading

Meter readings must be taken and submitted between 1 June and 14 July.

Licence holders will not be contacted in June to notify them of overuse. It is your responsibility to read your meter and monitor your usage. Random compliance checks will be conducted to ensure meters are working and recording correctly.

You are strongly encouraged to read your meter early.

Water trades and end‑of‑year readings

If you need to apply for a water trade:

  • trades must be lodged before Sunday 7 June 2026
  • this allows time for assessment and determination before 30 June 2026

Reading your meter early will help you decide whether a trade is needed.

Why regular meter reading matters

Water meters are an important water business management tool. Regular readings help you:

  • track your water use
  • avoid exceeding your available allocation
  • plan water trades or transfers
  • make informed water management decisions

Keeping accurate records is strongly recommended.
