Energy audits result in energy savings

Tandem Energy is a South Australian consultancy helping businesses and organisations with their energy and sustainability management – with a key focus on energy audits to help identify operational savings and reduce emissions.

Tandem Energy provides a range of services including strategy development, project delivery, certification, education and energy audits. Energy audits are a specific focus, noting that measuring your energy consumption and identifying opportunities for improvement not only reduces your emissions but can improve productivity and lead to financial savings. 

The outcomes from the last 20 energy audits conducted by Tandem Energy have been summarised below. This includes office buildings, aquatic centres, wineries, hotels and agriculture.

In total, these sites used approximately 25,000MWh of electricity each year, causing 7,700 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions (tCO2-e) and costing around $4.7 million.  Tandem Energy identified a combined savings from energy efficiency (not including solar) of approximately 15%, including 4,500MWh of electricity and over $700,000 in financial savings.

Tandem encourages businesses to invest savings into additional emissions reduction efforts. Quite often, these investments also lead to further financial savings. In other words – using the savings from energy efficiency projects to fund broader emissions reduction or adaptation work makes organisations more sustainable and resilient without having to find additional capital.
