Science
In the department, scientific knowledge underpins our policies and informs our service delivery, ultimately providing better environmental outcomes.
To build on the large amount of scientific knowledge we hold, we are working towards an innovative information capacity. We do this through research, analysis, monitoring and coordination of information, science and technological business activities.
Our knowledge and information teams work across the department programs and in collaboration with partner organisations and the community. We also administer legislation that promotes science.
Science Directions 2010-2015 describes our focus for science and research and outlines our priorities. The document underpins our responsibilities for protecting and restoring biodiversity and healthy ecological systems for future generations.
