National and international engagement

South Australia participates in several international agreements and programs to address climate change.

The Climate Group Under2 Coalition

The South Australian Government is a founding member of The Climate Group’s Under2 Coalition (formerly the States and Regions Alliance). The Climate Group is the world’s premier sub-national government climate action network. The Climate Group’s Under2 Coalition brings together sub-national government leaders to influence international dialogue, to share expertise, and to show the impact of sub-national government actions to address climate change. The South Australian Government is an Under2 Coalition Steering Group Member.

Net Zero Futures Policy Forum

The Net Zero Futures Policy Forum is an international partnership of governments committed to addressing the practical challenges of achieving net zero emissions. Its focus is on practical collaboration that can help governments shape the best global net zero policy solutions. The South Australian Government is a founding member of the Forum.

United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties

For nearly three decades, the United Nations (UN) has hosted global climate summits – called COPs – which stands for ‘Conference of the Parties’ to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. World leaders, government representatives, businesses and citizens attend COP events, which aims to mobilise action on urgently reducing greenhouse gas emissions and adapting to the effects of climate change.

The South Australian Government participates in COP events to learn from others and promote the state’s success in responding to climate change.

Mediterranean Climate Action Partnership

After COP28 hosted by Dubai in 2023, South Australia joined the Mediterranean Climate Action Partnership (MCAP), along with 14 other sub-national governments from across five continents.

MCAP is a global alliance of regions with a mediterranean climate that share approaches and co-develop strategies to adapt to drought, wildfire and heat through a series of technical work groups comprising experts from member governments.

RegionsAdapt

The South Australian Government is a member of RegionsAdapt - a global initiative for regional governments to take concrete actions, cooperate and report efforts in climate adaptation.

RegionsAdapt is a flagship program for Regions4 - a global network of regional governments in the fields of sustainable development, climate change and biodiversity.

CDP Reporting

CDP (the Carbon Disclosure Project) is a not-for-profit charity that runs the global disclosure system for investors, companies, cities, states and regions to manage their environmental impacts.

The South Australian Government reports annually to the CDP on climate change adaptation and mitigation actions being delivered.
