Empowering emissions reduction through data

ResourceCo, a leading Australian resource recovery company that transforms construction and demolition waste into materials for roads and infrastructure, is cutting emissions and energy use with Trellis Technologies’ cloud-based platform. Trellis Technologies is an Adelaide-based software and data services company specialising in ESG reporting and sustainability data management. By replacing manual, spreadsheet-based processes with automated data tracking, ResourceCo has saved weeks of administrative work and unlocked clearer, real-time insights. The team now has the tools to identify high-energy areas, benchmark performance, and take swift, targeted action, resulting in measurable energy savings, lower emissions, and a stronger foundation for product-level carbon reporting and future sustainability gains.

ResourceCo operates 25 sites across the country. Like many multi-site businesses, ResourceCo faced a common but critical challenge in gathering accurate and timely data to understand and reduce its energy use and emissions. Previously, the team relied on manual Excel-based processes to collect information from energy and fuel invoices. This time-consuming approach meant emissions data was only reviewed once a year, and potential data inaccuracies limited opportunities for ongoing improvement and efficiency.

Recognising the need for a more scalable, real-time solution, ResourceCo implemented Trellis Technologies — a cloud-based carbon accounting and utility data platform. Using Trellis, the company gained live access to its emissions and energy consumption across all sites, significantly reducing administrative expenses and improving data accuracy.

ResourceCo & Trellis Technologies

Trellis provided detailed visibility of energy performance across ResourceCo’s sites, enabling healthy competition between site managers and sparking data-driven conversations around efficiency. The platform allowed comparisons between facilities across states, exposing discrepancies in electricity and fuel usage, and helping the team identify where improvements could be made.

By shifting to automated data tracking and reporting, ResourceCo saved weeks of manual work while unlocking new emissions and cost reduction opportunities. Site managers now easily pinpoint high energy-consuming areas and take action — resulting in measurable energy savings and lower carbon emissions.

Looking ahead, ResourceCo plans to leverage this data even further by calculating the emissions intensity of its products on a per-tonne basis. This will not only strengthen its sustainability credentials but also provide a competitive edge as businesses increasingly seek low-carbon suppliers.

Through its partnership with Trellis, ResourceCo has shown how the right data and an effective platform turn compliance into real climate action.
