Which legislation applies to native vegetation in South Australia?

Native vegetation in South Australia is governed by several key pieces of legislation.

The Native Vegetation Act 1991 ensures that areas of high conservation value are protected, and that clearances are subject to a thorough assessment process.

The Native Vegetation Regulations 2017 allow certain types of clearance activities to be exempt from the Act, however some of these still need approval.

For more information, the Guide to the Native Vegetation Regulations 2017 clarifies what is and isn’t permissible in relation to clearing native vegetation under the Regulations.

The Native Vegetation (Credit for Environmental Benefits) Regulations 2015 set out the process for accrediting a Third Party Provider, accounting for the use of Credit and recording information on the Significant Environmental Benefit (SEB) Register.
