Community participation

The Basin Community Committee was established by the Murray-Darling Basin Authority to report on emerging community concerns and issues around Basin Plan implementation.

Community involvement will be a key element of the development of Basin Plan compliant water resource plans. This will occur through water allocation planning processes undertaken by the SA Murray-Darling Basin Natural Resources Management Board and informed by groups such as the community-based River Murray Advisory Committee (RMAC).

Communities can also become involved in the planning and management of water for the environment, including the development of long-term watering plans for the state.

A Water Recovery Advisory Forum, involving industry stakeholders has been established to provide advice on development of strategic water recovery projects.

In addition, the department establishes specific advisory groups to provide advice and input into related River Murray environmental activities and projects, including:
