SA Heritage Grants Program

Round One of the 2018/19 SA Heritage Grants Program has now been allocated. $249,600 of funding has been confirmed for 27 State Heritage Places. The part funding of these projects will facilitate $1,653,183 worth of conservation works.

Find out more about the successful projects.

If you own a State Heritage Place or a place in a State Heritage Area and are planning a conservation project that will help to conserve or protect significant fabric or heritage values, you may be eligible to receive a SA heritage grant. Given the large number of conservation projects that may be eligible, other considerations may include projects that contribute to:

  • the community - works with ‘public good’ component
  • heritage tourism - works that will result in increased visitation of a Place or Area
  • heritage trades and training - works that use traditional trades and skills and/or support specialised training
  • adaptive reuse - conservation works that support compatible new uses or continued use of a Place
  • places at risk - works to prevent further deterioration and conserve fabric at risk
  • remote and very remote places - works that support the regions.

Funding is provided on a dollar for dollar basis and is available for private owners, companies, community groups & local government who are owners of State Heritage Places, and owners or businesses within a State Heritage Area. State Heritage Places owned by the State government are not eligible.

To find out more about the SA Heritage Grants Program, read the heritage grants fact sheet. In order to submit an application you must have received advice from a heritage professional and have up to date quotes ready to attach to your application. To find out more about the application process read the Application Guide.

Other grants

Funding for heritage places may also be available from the following sources:

Building Upgrade Finance

Building Upgrade Finance may be available to supplement grant funding for non-residential heritage building upgrade works where the grant funding provides only a proportion of the total cost. Building Upgrade Finance is secured against the land, via a local council charge, with repayments made through the local council rates billing process and then transferred to the financier by the local council. This form of finance is currently available to building owners in the Cities of Adelaide, Marion, Onkaparinga and Salisbury, via private sector finance providers, to fund environmental and heritage works to existing non-residential buildings.

To find out more, contact Lara Daddow, Building Upgrade Finance Central Facilitator for South Australia on 8203 7884 or l.daddow@cityofadelaide.com.au.
