South Australian Government engagement in the UN COP Events

South Australia at COP30

The 30th United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Conference of the Parties (COP30) will be held in Belém, Brazil between 10 and 21 November 2025.

World leaders, government representatives, businesses and citizens will attend COP30, which aims to accelerate action towards the climate change mitigation and adaptation goals of the 2015 Paris Agreement and the UNFCCC.

South Australia will have representation at COP30, as well as at local and regional leaders’ events being held immediately prior to COP30 in Rio de Janeiro.

The COP30 program includes the following themes:

Nov 10-11Adaptation, Cities, Infrastructure, Water, Waste, Local Governments, Bioeconomy, Circular Economy, Science, Technology, and Artificial Intelligence, laying the groundwork for climate readiness and resilience across all systems, sectors, communities, and regions.
Nov 12-13Health, Jobs, Education, Culture, Justice and human rights, Information integrity, and Workers. These days also introduce the Global Ethical Stocktake, reinforcing equity and moral responsibility in climate governance.
Nov 14-15Systems transformation across Energy, Industry, Transport, Trade, Finance, Carbon markets, and Non-CO₂ gases, supporting the global push to triple renewable energy, double energy efficiency, and transition away from fossil fuels in a just, orderly, and equitable manner.
Nov 17-18Planetary and community stewardship — centering on Forests, Oceans, and Biodiversity, while spotlighting Indigenous peoples, Local and traditional communities, Children and Youth, and Small and medium entrepreneurs, showcasing inclusive, grounded, and nature-aligned solutions.
Nov 19-20Food, agriculture, and equity at their roots, covering Agriculture, Food Systems and Food Security, Fisheries, and Family Farming. They will also emphasise debates related to Women, Gender, Afro-descendant, and Tourism.
