Applying for an animal welfare research and teaching licence
If you intend to use animals for research or teaching, you must obtain a licence.
Ensure you read the Australian code for the care and use of animals for scientific purposes 8th edition (2013) (the Code). It is a requirement of licence conditions to comply with the requirements of the Code. If a breach of the Code results in an animal suffering, an offender may be prosecuted for ill treatment of animals which may incur a significant penalty.
You must also comply with any other Codes of practice for animal welfare and Codes of practice for the humane destruction of wildlife relevant to the activities you will be performing.
The cost for a licence is $93 from 1 July 2025.
