Prescribed burn at Upper Sturt

Date posted: 05 Dec. 2025

A prescribed burn is planned at Upper Sturt in the Mount Lofty Ranges on Sunday 7 December, weather conditions permitting.

  • The prescribed burn will start at 10am and is likely to be completed by 4:30pm the same day.
  • The area to be burnt is 1.8 hectares on private land south west of the intersection of Upper Sturt Road and Hilltop Drive.
  • This is part of a series of planned burns which aim to reduce the risk of bushfires impacting Upper Sturt and dwellings on Upper Sturt Road.
  • No roads or trails are planned to be closed during the burn.
  • Upper Sturt Road will be impacted by smoke.

National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) crews will remain on site until safe.

NPWS conducts a statewide program of prescribed burns to reduce the spread and intensity of bushfires, protect communities and enhance biodiversity.

Prescribed burning is just one tool used to reduce fuel loads across strategic areas of public and private land.

Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice.
