Prescribed burn at Spider Lake, Dhilba Guuranda-Innes National Park

A prescribed burn is planned 8km west of Marion Bay between Spider Lake and the Browns Beach Road, Dhilba Guuranda-Innes National Park, Yorke Peninsula starting on Tuesday 31 March 2026, weather permitting.

The prescribed burn will start at 4pm on Tuesday and is likely to be completed by Wednesday 1 April at 7.30pm. Smoke may be visible within the burn area for several days.

  • The area to be burnt is 310 hectares.
  • This is a landscape protection burn to reduce fuel load and limit the spread and impact of possible bushfires.
  • Aircraft will be used to help deliver and manage this burn.
  • All internal fire tracks between Pondalowie Bay Road, Browns Beach Road and Marion Lake will be closed to the public until safe to reopen.

National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) crews will remain on site until safe.

NPWS conducts a statewide program of prescribed burns to reduce the spread and intensity of bushfires, protect communities and enhance biodiversity.

Prescribed burning is just one tool used to reduce fuel loads across strategic areas of public and private land.

Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice.
