Prescribed burn at Read’s Swamp

Date posted: 08 Apr. 2025

A prescribed burn is planned at Read’s Swamp in the Adelaide Hills on Wednesday, weather conditions permitting.

  • The prescribed burn will start at 4.30pm on 9 April 2025 and is likely to be completed by 8pm the same day.
  • The area to be burnt is 4.9 hectares on private land east of Bull Creek Road, Mount Observation, in close proximity to Cox Scrub Conservation Park.
  • This is an ecological burn aimed at regenerating threatened flora.
  • No roads or trails are planned to be closed throughout the burn.
  • Smoke will be visible in the area during the burn.
  • National Parks and Wildlife Service crews will remain on site until safe.

NPWSSA conducts a statewide program of prescribed burns to reduce the spread and intensity of bushfires, protect communities and enhance biodiversity. Prescribed burning is just one tool used to reduce fuel loads across strategic areas of public and private land.

Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice.
