Prescribed burn at Ngarkat Conservation Park

Date posted: 02 Oct. 2026

A prescribed burn is planned at Ngarkat Conservation Park in the Riverland and Murraylands on Monday 5 October, weather conditions permitting.
The prescribed burn will start at 11:00am and is likely to be completed by Tuesday 6 October at 6:00pm. Flames and smoke may be visible within the burn area for several days.

  • The area to be burnt is 100 hectares.
  • This is a landscape protection burn.
  • Traffic management will be in place for sections of Baan Road within the park.
  • Smoke may be visible from locations near the park.

National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) crews will remain on site until safe.
NPWS conducts a statewide program of prescribed burns to reduce the spread and intensity of bushfires, protect communities and enhance biodiversity.
Prescribed burning is just one tool used to reduce fuel loads across strategic areas of public and private land.
Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice.
