Prescribed burn at Morialta Conservation Park

A prescribed burn is planned at Morialta Conservation Park in the Mount Lofty Ranges on Thursday, 29 October, weather conditions permitting. The prescribed burn will start at 12:00pm and is likely to be completed by 7:00pm. Flames and smoke may be visible within the burn area for several days.

  • The area to be burnt is 34.4 hectares.
  • Aircraft will be used to help deliver and manage this burn.
  • The burn aims to create low fuel areas to reduce the risk of bushfires impacting the communities of Rostrevor, Teringie, Norton Summit and Woodforde and provide 
    opportunities for the regeneration of threatened plant species.
  • Centre Track and Rocky Hill Track within the park will remain open but may be impacted by smoke. Rostrevor, including Rostrevor College, and parts of Woodforde may also be impacted by smoke.

National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) crews will remain on site until safe.

NPWS conducts a statewide program of prescribed burns to reduce the spread and intensity of bushfires, protect communities and enhance biodiversity. Prescribed burning is just one tool used to reduce fuel loads across strategic areas of public and private land. Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice.
