Prescribed burn at Mary Seymour Conservation Park

Date posted: 22 May 2025

A prescribed burn is planned at Mary Seymour Conservation Park south west of Naracoorte on the Limestone Coast on Thursday 22 May 2025, weather conditions permitting.

The burn will start at 10.30am on Thursday and is likely to be completed by 7.00pm that evening.

  • The area to be burnt is 18 hectares.
  • The burn will take place on the eastern side of Mary Seymour Conservation Park.
  • The aim of the burn is to reduce the likelihood of the whole park burning in a single bushfire event.
  • Smoke may be visible during and after the burn.
  • All walking trails will be closed.
  • Bool Lagoon West Road will be impacted by smoke.
  • National Parks and Wildlife Service crews will remain on site until safe.

NPWSSA conducts a statewide program of prescribed burns to reduce the spread and intensity of bushfires, protect communities and enhance biodiversity. Prescribed burning is just one tool used to reduce fuel loads across strategic areas of public and private land.

Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice.
