A prescribed burn is planned at Hindmarsh Valley National Park, on the Fleurieu Peninsula, on Friday 5 April 2024, weather conditions permitting.
- The prescribed burn will start at 11am and is likely to be completed by 6pm on Friday 5 April.
- The area to be burnt is 10.7 hectares on the corner of Hindmarsh Tiers Road and Nettle Hill Road in the northern block of the park.
- The prescribed burn is for landscape protection to reduce fuel loads and to ensure the consumption of woody weeds to assist in restoration of the
remnant native bushland at this site. - No roads or tracks will be closed.
- Hindmarsh Tiers Road, Nettle Hill Road and Hindmarsh Falls Road may be
impacted by smoke at times. - National Parks and Wildlife Service crews will remain on site until safe.
NPWSSA conducts a statewide program of prescribed burns to reduce the spread and intensity of bushfires, protect communities and enhance biodiversity. Prescribed burning is just one tool used to reduce fuel loads across strategic areas of public and private land.
Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice.
