Prescribed burn at Glenthorne National Park
Date posted: 13 May 2025
A prescribed burn is planned at Glenthorne National Park-Ityamaiitpinna Yarta on Wednesday, weather conditions permitting.
- The prescribed burn will start at 10am 14 May and is likely to be completed by 1pm the same day.
- The area to be burnt is 1 hectare just south of the Adventure Playground.
- This burn will remove non-native weedy grasses and shrubs in preparation for revegetation projects.
- Some walking trails within the park will be closed throughout the burn. Signage will be put in place to advise which trails will be closed.
- Main South Road, Candy Road, Majors Road and the Southern Expressway may be impacted by white smoke for a short time.
- National Parks and Wildlife Service crews will remain on site until safe.
NPWSSA conducts a statewide program of prescribed burns to reduce the spread and intensity of bushfires, protect communities and enhance biodiversity. Prescribed burning is just one tool used to reduce fuel loads across strategic areas of public and private land.
Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice.
