Prescribed burn at Giles Conservation Park

A prescribed burn is planned in Giles Conservation Park approximately 1km northwest of Ashton on Friday 2 May 2025, weather conditions permitting.

The burn will start at 12.30pm on Friday and is likely to be completed by 4.00pm that afternoon.

  • The area to be burnt is 6.3 hectares.
  • The burn is one of a series to reduce fuel load in the area and the risk of a bushfire spreading through the park and surrounding communities.
  • Smoke may be visible during the burn.
  • No roads or trails will be closed.
  • National Parks and Wildlife Service crews will remain on site until safe.

NPWSSA conducts a statewide program of prescribed burns to reduce the spread and intensity of bushfires, protect communities and enhance biodiversity. Prescribed burning is just one tool used to reduce fuel loads across strategic areas of public and private land.

Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice.
