Prescribed burn at Cox Scrub Conservation Park

A prescribed burn is planned at Cox Scrub Conservation Park, in the Adelaide and Mount Lofty Ranges, on Thursday 24 April 2025, weather conditions permitting.

  • The burn will start at 11.30am on Thursday and is likely to be completed by 6pm that evening.
  • The area to be burnt is 19.4 hectares within the northwest corner of the park, 5km southwest of Ashbourne and 10km east of Mount Compass.
  • It is a landscape protection burn to reduce the likelihood of the whole park burning in a single bushfire event.
  • Smoke will likely be visible from Victor Harbor Road.
  • The Rymill, Caliana and Varanus tracks within the park will be closed during the burn.
  • National Parks and Wildlife Service crews will remain on site until safe.

NPWSSA conducts a statewide program of prescribed burns to reduce the spread and intensity of bushfires, protect communities and enhance biodiversity. Prescribed burning is just one tool used to reduce fuel loads across strategic areas of public and private land.

Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice.
