Prescribed burn at Carey Gully

Date posted: 15 Apr. 2024

A prescribed burn is planned at Carey Gully, in the Adelaide Mount Lofty Ranges on Tuesday 16 April 2024, weather conditions permitting.

  • The burn will start at 11.30am on Tuesday 16 April and is likely to be completed by 4:00pm that afternoon.
  • The area to be burnt is 2.6 hectares near the intersection of Deviation Road and Kneen Lane.
  • This burn is to provide asset protection and is one of a series of burns planned to reduce the risk of a fire burning through the continuous native vegetation from Cherryville to Carey Gully/Balhannah.
  • No road closures or speed restrictions will be in place.
  • Deviation Road and Boundary Drive may be impacted by smoke for the duration of the burn.
  • National Parks and Wildlife Service crews will remain on site until safe.

NPWSSA conducts a statewide program of prescribed burns to reduce the spread and intensity of bushfires, protect communities and enhance biodiversity. Prescribed burning is just one tool used to reduce fuel loads across strategic areas of public and private land.

Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice.
