Prescribed burn at Belair National Park

Date posted: 28 Apr. 2026

A prescribed burn is planned at Belair National Park on Wednesday, weather conditions permitting.

The prescribed burn is in the eastern area of the park along Queens Jubilee Drive. It will start at 11am and is likely to be completed by 7pm. Smoke may be visible within the burn area for several days.

  • The area to be burnt is 8.2 hectares.
  • This is a landscape protection burn.
  • Queens Jubilee Drive will be affected by smoke during the burn, and walkers using this trail
near the burn area may face delays as they will need to be escorted when it is safe to do so.
  • Other minor trails in the park might be affected by smoke, depending on prevailing winds.

National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) crews will remain on site until safe.

NPWS conducts a statewide program of prescribed burns to reduce the spread and intensity of bushfires, protect communities and enhance biodiversity.

Prescribed burning is just one tool used to reduce fuel loads across strategic areas of public and private land.

Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice.
