Prescribed burn at Bandon Conservation Park

Date posted: 15 Apr. 2026

A prescribed burn is planned at Bandon Conservation Park on Thursday 16 April, weather conditions permitting.

The prescribed burn will start at 10.30am and is likely to be completed by 10pm. Flames and smoke may be visible within the burn area for several days.

  • The area to be burnt is 86 hectares in the vicinity of Copeville, about 75km north-east of Murray Bridge.
  • This is an ecological burn to increase biodiversity and encourage fire-responding flora in the park.
  • Smoke may affect Kadlie Bore Road.
  • Smoke may be visible many kilometres from the prescribed burn.

National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) crews will remain on site until safe.

NPWS conducts a statewide program of prescribed burns to reduce the spread and intensity of bushfires, protect communities and enhance biodiversity.

Prescribed burning is just one tool used to reduce fuel loads across strategic areas of public and private land.

Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice.
