Prescribed burn at Deep Creek Conservation Park

Date posted: 26 Nov. 2019

A prescribed burn is planned at Deep Creek Conservation Park on Wednesday 27 November 2019 weather conditions permitting.

  • The prescribed burn is likely to commence at 12pm on Wednesday 27 November and is expected to be complete by 6pm the same day.
  • The burn will impact 9.3 hectares of land adjacent to Stringybark Campground and the Ridgetop Retreats in Deep Creek Conservation Park.
  • Tapanappa Road, Stringybark Campground and the Ridgetop Retreats will be impacted by smoke.
  • Some smoke and fire activity will remain visible for several days after the burn, however, the area will be patrolled during this period.
  • The burn aims to reduce fuels to protect the adjacent Stringybark Campround and Ridgetop Retreats.

The burn will be carried out by the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS). A crew will remain on site until it is safe to leave.

The objective of this burn is to reduce fuels in the area to prevent the spread of bushfire. It is part of a statewide program of prescribed burning planned to protect communities and assets at risk.

Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice.
