To celebrate this stunning part of the world, National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is showcasing the Parks of Kangaroo Island for Park of the Month this February.

Across Kangaroo Island a diverse array of parks house and protect the island’s beautiful flora, extraordinary wildlife, and iconic landmarks, such as Remarkable Rocks and Admirals Arch.

A series of fun, free events are planned across the island throughout the month, concluded by a special open day to mark 100 years of touring the public through the magnificent Kelly Hill Caves.

The Kelly Hill Caves system was formed 1- to 2-million-years ago and is an underground labyrinth of sinkholes and caverns thought to extend for kilometres.

Throughout the caves, visitors are transported to another world by the countless number of beautiful yet fragile stalagmites, stalactites, helictites and towering rock columns.

NPWS Kangaroo Island Commercial Services Team Leader, Andrew Schaberau, said the open day was a celebration of one of the island’s unique attractions.

“The Kelly Hill Caves tour is a beautiful experience, well worth a visit,” Mr Schaberau said.

“We will be running a program of tours where visitors will be able to discover the stunning cave formations and experience our amazing dynamic story-telling light display.

“The open day is a fantastic opportunity to visit the caves and explore this incredible location.”

Other Park of the Month events include:

  • Admirals Arch Roaming Tour Guides
  • Beginner’s Nature Photography at the new Flinders Chase Visitor Centre
  • A social media competition
