Park of the Month: Southern Eyre Peninsula - where nature and adventure meet
This month, the pristine landscapes of the Southern Eyre Peninsula are celebrated as National Parks and Wildlife Service’s (NPWS) Park of the Month.
NPWS ranger Elly Schultz says Spring is when Southern Eyre Peninsula wakes up and highlights new life.
“I love seeing the spring wildflowers such as cockies tongue and wattles. There are also plenty of emu chicks out and about with their dads,” Elly said.
“This month we have lots of activities to get involved in and ones that will hopefully inspire people to get involved in maintaining these pristine environments as well as connecting with nature.”
Starting the month and to mark National Threatened Species Day on Sunday 7 September, join NPWS rangers as they lead a guided bird walk through Lincoln National Park. Enjoy a leisurely stroll through native vegetation, spotting the birds of the Southern Eyre Peninsula by sight and call.
On Sunday the 21st of September, join NPWS Rangers and Volunteers as they celebrate 30 years of Friends of Southern Eyre Peninsula Parks. Learn about the activities the group is involved in and the difference they’ve made over the last 3 decades. After a clean-up on Stamford Beach you can reward yourself with a free barbecue. Please sign (for planning purposes).
Finally, in what must be the best way to see Yangie Bay, join NPWS Rangers on Monday 29 September for a guided kayak tour and learn about the secret life of the critters and plants who inhabit the Coffin Bay region.
