Prescribed burn at Upper Sturt (cancelled)

Date posted: 30 Oct. 2025

A prescribed burn is planned at Upper Sturt in the Adelaide Hills on Friday, weather conditions permitting. The prescribed burn will start at 10am on October 31 and is likely to be completed by 4pm on the same day. Flames and smoke may be visible within the burn area for several days.

  • The area to be burnt is 1.8 hectares on private property, south of Upper Sturt Road in Upper Sturt, and west of the Hilltop Drive intersection
  • Upper Sturt Road in Upper Sturt will be impacted by smoke and will remain open
  • The burn will reduce fuel in the landscape to lower the risk of a bushfire impacting on the community of Upper Sturt and local dwellings.

National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) crews will remain on site until safe.

NPWS conducts a statewide program of prescribed burns to reduce the spread and intensity of bushfires, protect communities and enhance biodiversity.

Prescribed burning is just one tool used to reduce fuel loads across strategic areas of public and private land.

Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice.
