Prescribed burn at Ngarkat Conservation Park

A prescribed burn is planned at Ngarkat Conservation Park, in the Murraylands, on Monday 6 May 2024, weather conditions permitting.

  • The prescribed burn will start at 11am and is likely to be completed by 5pm the same day.
  • The area to be burnt is 50 hectares within the park, about 40km south of Lameroo.
  • This is a landscape protection burn to reduce the likelihood of the whole park burning in a single bushfire event
  • Piggery Track will be closed throughout the burn.
  • Smoke may be visible from Ngarkat Highway, Baan Hill Road and the Pertendi Campgrounds.
  • National Parks and Wildlife Service crews will remain on site until safe.

NPWSSA conducts a statewide program of prescribed burns to reduce the spread and intensity of bushfires, protect communities and enhance biodiversity.
