Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park is the National Parks and Wildlife Service's (NPWS) Park of the Month this October, inviting South Australians to experience one of the state’s most spectacular natural and cultural landscapes.

Located in the heart of the Flinders Ranges, the park is renowned for its rugged mountain ranges, dramatic gorges and ancient landscapes, and offers visitors opportunities to explore its significant natural, geological and cultural values.

Covering approximately 95,000 hectares, the park includes the Heysen Range, Brachina and Bunyeroo gorges, and natural mountain amphitheatre Ikara Wilpena Pound.

Ranger in Charge James Tomlinson said October was a great time to discover what makes Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park so special.

“Whether you’re exploring the park’s spectacular landscapes, learning about its wildlife and geology or discovering its rich cultural heritage, there’s something for everyone to experience this October,” Mr Tomlinson said.

“Visitors can join a ranger-guided wildlife walk, explore the park with activity packs, take part in guided tours, experience a cultural tour or discover the incredible night sky over Wilpena Pound.

“Park of the Month is a great opportunity to experience the park in a new way and learn more about the people, landscapes, wildlife and stories that make Ikara-Flinders Ranges such a remarkable place.”

Throughout October, NPWS will host a diverse program of activities, giving visitors the chance to experience the park through art, wildlife, culture, geology and the night sky. Activities include:
