Expressions of Interest are now open for the Coast Protection Board’s 2026–27 Coast Protection Grant Program.

The annual program supports coastal councils to better manage and protect coastal assets and address the risks posed by coastal hazards and climate change to improve the long-term resilience of South Australia’s coastline.

Previous grants have supported coastal protection and resilience initiatives across South Australia. The Board will prioritise funding towards projects that implement actions from councils’ coastal hazard adaptation plans.

Projects shortlisted through the Expression of Interest process will be invited to submit a detailed project scope for consideration and approval by the Coast Protection Board.

In the most recent round of funding, the District Council of Robe used a $235,000 grant to install geotextile sandbags at Fox Beach to protect vulnerable sections of coastline that has experienced storm damage while building long-term resilience.

Presiding Member of the Coast Protection Board Paul Caica said South Australia’s coastline is one of the state’s greatest environmental, community and economic assets, and protecting it requires strong partnerships between state and local government.

“Coastal councils understand the challenges facing their local communities and are well placed to identify projects that will deliver practical and lasting benefits,” Mr Caica said.

“These grants will help councils undertake important work to repair and restore coastal areas, protect public assets and improve the resilience of our coastlines.

“I encourage eligible councils to put forward projects that will support the sustainable management of South Australia’s coast now and into the future.”

Grant guidelines and Expression of Interest forms are available at: www.environment.sa.gov.au/topics/coasts/grants-and-opportunities. Expressions of Interest close on Friday 16 October 2026.
