Nominate to become a landscape board member
Experienced, emerging and respected community leaders are among those encouraged to nominate from today to become members of South Australia’s regional landscape boards.
Landscape boards play a vital role working with their communities and stakeholders to provide strategic leadership on matters relating to land, water, animals, pests and biodiversity.
The State Government works with more than 20 independent boards and committees – including nine regional landscape boards and multiple co-managed national park boards – to guide South Australia’s environment and heritage.
Significant projects undertaken by landscape boards include:
- Eradicating feral pigs on Kangaroo Island
- Removing illegal dams in the Mount Lofty Ranges
- Reintroducing Murray crayfish into the River Murray
A total of 32 positions are available on the Eyre Peninsula, Hills and Fleurieu, Kangaroo Island, Limestone Coast, Murraylands and Riverland, Northern and Yorke, and South Australia Arid Lands landscape boards.
Green Adelaide and Alinytjara Wilurara Landscape Board appointments are managed through a separate process.
Department for Environment and Water Director of Climate Action and Landscape Partnerships, Mary-Anne Healy, said nominees will ideally bring to the role established networks of stakeholders and partners and live in the landscape board region.
However, people outside those regions with relevant skills, knowledge and experience are welcome to apply.
“Regional landscape boards are at the heart of caring for South Australia’s unique environments,” Ms Healy said.
“They provide local leadership on the issues that matter most to our communities – from sustainable land and water management to biodiversity conservation and pest control.
“We encourage people from all backgrounds, cultures and professions to nominate and help shape the future of our landscapes for generations to come.”
Successful nominees are appointed for up to four-year terms, starting January 31, 2027, by the Minister for Climate, Environment and Water. Current members are welcome to reapply.
The Landscape South Australia Act 2019 allows the minister to appoint members without elections.
Applications close on August 14. For more information and to apply visit: www.landscape.sa.gov.au/board-nominations
