Prescribed burn at Simpson Conservation Park

A prescribed burn is planned at Simpson Conservation Park on Kangaroo Island on Monday, 16 November, weather conditions permitting.
- The prescribed burn will start at 10:45 am and is likely to be completed by 6 pm.
- The area to be burnt is 5.9 hectares in the north-western corner of the park, off Black Point Road, Porky Flat. It is about 18km south of Penneshaw.
- The burn is planned to provide a buffer zone to Black Point Road and the northern boundary of the burn area in preparation for another planned burn in the park.
- Some smoke and fire activity may be observed in the days following the burn but the area will be patrolled until it is safe.
- Black Point Road might be affected by smoke during the burn. Speed restrictions will be in effect and traffic restrictions will occur if smoke reduces visibility.
The burn will be conducted by the Department for Environment and Water.
National Parks and Wildlife Service SA’s statewide program of prescribed burns helps limit the spread and intensity of bushfires, protects communities and enhances biodiversity. Prescribed burning is just one tool used to reduce fuel loads across strategic areas of public and private land.
Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice.
