The park lies along the southern coast of Kangaroo Island between D'Estrees Bay and the western end of Seal Bay Conservation Park. With deep-water reefs, exposed cliffs and rocky headlands the park features one of Australia’s most important breeding sites for Australian sea lions.

There are numerous opportunities to watch the sea lions on land and at sea, as well as exploring the park’s habitats including the offshore, deep-water granite knolls at South West Rocks and the D’Estrees Bay coastline, which is a wetland of national importance.

Great fishing can also be experienced along the shore of D’Estrees Bay, while further out in the deep reefs good numbers of snapper, whiting and small sharks can be found.

Access to Southern Kangaroo Island Marine Park is from Seal Bay, Cape Gantheaume and D'Estrees Bay.
