Prescribed burn on Kangaroo Island

Date posted: 16 Oct. 2026

A prescribed burn is planned on private land at Dudley West on Kangaroo Island from Sunday 18 to Monday 19 October, weather conditions permitting. The prescribed burn will start at 10:00am on Sunday and is likely to be completed by 8:00pm on Monday. Flames and smoke may be visible within the burn area for several days.

  • The area to be burnt is 55.8 hectares.
  • The burn will occur on the south side of East West Road, Dudley West, approximately 5
kilometres east southeast of Baudin Beach.
  • This is a landscape protection burn.
  • No roads will be closed throughout the burn, but traffic management contractors will be on
site and may reduce traffic speed and flow to one lane on a short section of East West Road.
  • East West Road may be impacted by smoke.

National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) crews will remain on site until safe.

NPWS conducts a statewide program of prescribed burns to reduce the spread and intensity of bushfires, protect communities and enhance biodiversity. Prescribed burning is just one tool used to reduce fuel loads across strategic areas of public and private land. Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice.
