Prescribed burn near Kingston SE

A prescribed burn is planned at Mt Scott Conservation Park, 19km east of Kingston SE on the Limestone Coast, on Wednesday, weather conditions permitting.
The prescribed burn will start at 11.30am on Wednesday 13 May and is likely to be completed by 6pm on Thursday. Flames and smoke may be visible within the burn area for several days.
- The area to be burnt is 150 hectares.
- Aircraft will assist with the burn.
- This is a landscape protection burn.
- Park tracks near the burn will be closed to the public for the duration.
- Smoke may be visible from Blackford Road and Mt Scott Road.
National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) crews will remain on site until safe.
NPWS conducts a statewide program of prescribed burns to reduce the spread and intensity of bushfires, protect communities and enhance biodiversity.
Prescribed burning is just one tool used to reduce fuel loads across strategic areas of public and private land.
Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice.
