Prescribed burn at North East Calperum Station

A prescribed burn is planned at North East Calperum Station, north east of Renmark in the Riverland,
on Tuesday, weather conditions permitting.
The prescribed burn will start at 12pm 21 April 2026 and is likely to be completed by 6pm the same
day. Smoke may be visible within the burn area for several days.
• The area to be burnt is 28 hectares within the station.
• This is an ecological burn to measure the effect of fire on woody weed suppression.
• The area is currently closed to the public.
• Smoke is unlikely to be visible from public Roads.
National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) crews will remain on site until safe.
NPWS conducts a statewide program of prescribed burns to reduce the spread and intensity of
bushfires, protect communities and enhance biodiversity.
Prescribed burning is just one tool used to reduce fuel loads across strategic areas of public and
private land.
Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at
short notice.
