Prescribed burn at Mark Oliphant Conservation Park

Date posted: 15 Oct. 2026

A prescribed burn is planned at Mark Oliphant Conservation Park in the Mt Lofty Ranges on Friday, 16 October, weather conditions permitting. The prescribed burn will start at 12.15pm and is likely to be completed by 6:30pm. Flames and smoke may be visible within the burn area for several days.

  • The area to be burnt is 6.2 hectares.
  • The burn aims to provide a low fuel area to reduce the risk of bushfire impacting on neighbouring properties and enhancing habitat quality for the Southern Brown Bandicoot  within the park.
  • Local roads will remain open, however Scott Creek Road, Morgan Road and Ironbank Road may be impacted by smoke.

National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) crews will remain on site until safe.

NPWS conducts a statewide program of prescribed burns to reduce the spread and intensity of bushfires, protect communities and enhance biodiversity. Prescribed burning is just one tool used to reduce fuel loads across strategic areas of public and private land. Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice.
