Prescribed burn at Jaki Ina – Worlds End Gorge National Park

Date posted: 21 Oct. 2026

A prescribed burn is planned at Jaki Ina – World’s End Gorge National Park in the Mid North on Thursday, 22 October, weather conditions permitting. The prescribed burn will start at 11:30am and is likely to be completed by 7:00pm.

  •  The area to be burnt is 8 hectares, 20 kilometres south of Burra on the western side of Burra Gorge.
  • This is an ecological burn to manage and improve the condition of native grassland in the park.
  • There is no public access to the burn site.

National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) crews will remain on site until safe.

NPWS conducts a statewide program of prescribed burns to reduce the spread and intensity of bushfires, protect communities and enhance biodiversity. Prescribed burning is just one tool used to reduce fuel loads across strategic areas of public and private land. Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice.
