Prescribed burn at Filsell Hill
Date posted: 21 Oct. 2026
A prescribed burn is planned at Filsell Hill in the Mount Lofty Ranges on Thursday, 22 October, weather conditions permitting. The prescribed burn will start at 4:00pm and is likely to be completed by 8:00pm. Flames and smoke may be visible within the burn area for several days.
- The burn will occur on private land at Filsell Hill near Forest Range, north of Kenneth Stirling Conservation Park.
- The area to be burnt is 4.9 hectares.
- This is a landscape protection burn.
- No roads or trails will be closed throughout the burn.
- Deviation Road to the west, Collins Hill Road to the north, Swamp Road to the east and Greenhill Road to the south may be impacted by smoke.
National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) crews will remain on site until safe.
NPWS conducts a statewide program of prescribed burns to reduce the spread and intensity of bushfires, protect communities and enhance biodiversity. Prescribed burning is just one tool used to reduce fuel loads across strategic areas of public and private land. Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice.
