The Department for Environment and Water (DEW) is closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation. We are implementing a range of measures to protect the health and wellbeing of all South Australians to prevent the spread of COVID-19, as well as to support our business partners.
National parks and other sites
Most South Australian parks remain open to local park visitors. Our parks and open spaces provide opportunities to stay active and healthy, while social distancing.
Stick to parks near you, stay up to date with government guidelines about social distancing and movement restrictions and use common sense about who you visit with.
Please do not visit a park if you are feeling sick or are required to self-isolate.
The National Parks and Wildlife Service South Australia COVID-19 FAQs webpage provides park, camping and accommodation updates, refund information and more.
Most of our tourist destinations are open with COVID-19 safe measures in place for your health and wellbeing. Find out more by visiting the below websites:
Financial relief for our business partners
We are committed to working with our business partners to provide support to those affected by COVID-19 restrictions.
We recognise the importance of tourism to the South Australian economy and we are working to support our tourism and hospitality business partners.
Tourism and hospitality operators with leases on national parks or Crown Lands have been provided financial relief until 30 September 2020, and their Commercial Tour Operator annual licence fees are being waived until then as well.
Debt management support for other customers
We also understand that COVID-19 may present financial challenges for our other customers.
If you are experiencing financial difficulties related to COVID-19, please contact the DEW Accounts Operations team by e-mail to DEWDebtRecovery@sa.gov.au to discuss if suitable arrangements for debt management can be made. Alternatively, you can contact us on (08) 8204 9263.
Natural resource centres and offices
Public access to our natural resource centres and offices is restricted to minimise the risk of COVID-19 exposure, but our services remain open. To check the status of your local office you can call them or visit their website.
Community events and gatherings
Face-to-face community events and activities have been suspended until further notice to minimise the risk of COVID-19 exposure.
In response to the South Australian Government’s Step 1 in easing COVID-19 restrictions roadmap, we encourage park volunteers to recommence activities in partnership with National Parks and Wildlife Service staff.
