Sustainable development

Ensuring new and proposed development is sustainable is an important aspect of coastal management.  Development should be undertaken in a manner that results in achieving its goal without adverse environmental impacts.

Any new development proposals or substantial changes to coastal land must be referred to the Coast Protection Board for comment. The department's Coastal Management Branch is a team of coastal engineers, planners and scientific officers who support the Coast Protection Board in providing the advice on any referrals received throughout South Australia.
