DEW’s Women in Leadership subcommittee will commemorate the 125th anniversary of women getting the vote in SA with three sessions of Yoga in the Park

In 1894 the landmark constitutional amendment enabling SA women to vote was passed, making SA the second ever place in the world to do so.

It was an incredible achievement that came as a result of years of campaigning, letter writing, signature gathering and lobbying by men and women in the SA community.

It was a huge step towards gender equity in SA and meant women could participate in public life by having their say at general elections.

To commemorate the anniversary, three sessions of Yoga in the Park will be held in the Adelaide and Mount Lofty Ranges Natural Resources region:

The events are designed to put a spotlight on the women’s suffrage movement to celebrate the significant impact that it has on society and the importance of women within our community.

Members of the public and DEW staff are encouraged to attend and experience a connection with the environment while relaxing with yoga to celebrate and reflect on this special landmark event.

An experienced yoga instructor will run the session, with participants encouraged to dress in key theme colours of purple and golden yellow as part of the celebrations.

Participants will also need to bring a yoga mat or towel for the session. Children attending the sessions must attend with a supervising parent or guardian.
