Not all silver bells this Christmas season

It’s nearly the end of the year and for many people it’s a time for celebrating Christmas and New Year festivities with friends and family and hopefully having a relaxing summer break. However this holiday period can also bring great stress to others.

Challenges that can often arise at this time of year include:

  • overwhelming money and time pressures
  • family tensions or conflicts
  • emotional impacts around the loss of loved ones or close friends
  • physical and emotional stresses around overeating or consuming alcohol.

When our stress levels rise, our ability to cope is tested, which is why we need strategies to deal with these challenges.

DEW’s Employee Assistance Provider, Converge International, has a number of materials that explore positive steps to manage the holiday period including: managing budgets, coping with family conflicts, remembering loved ones and managing our holiday diet.

You can download these materials and other tools to help you through the silly season on EAP’s online portal. To access the portal, go to the top right hand corner of the screen and use the login and username: dpcsa.
