Since 2016, the AMLR NRM levy has supported the market’s New Farmers Scholarship (previously Young Farmers) through funding and staff support.

The scholarship is made up of $12,000 in start-up funds and $3,000 in mentorship and business training.

This year’s recipients, Chris and Bridgett Day of Cockatoo Creek Farm, will use the scholarship for an emerging regenerative farm enterprise based in Yankalilla on the Fleurieu Peninsula.

Chris and Bridgett’s mission is to regenerate the land through their farming practices and management to provide nutrient dense food to the community and a resilient livelihood for themselves.

In the first year, the pair’s priority is pasture-raised lambs, with a plan to expand to medicinal herbs and infused olive oils.

Previous recipients have been Heirloom Harvest and Primordia Mushrooms.

The Willunga Farmers Market is held every Saturday from 8 am until 12.30 pm at the Willunga Town Square on Main Road, Willunga.
