If you missed out on attending the ‘History of Adelaide’s beaches’ webinar, a recording is now available for you to watch.
Hosted by DEW’s Coast and Marine team, the webinar featured author and leading coastal expert Professor Andy Short OAM as the guest speaker.
Andy spoke about how Adelaide’s much-loved long, sandy beaches were formed over the past 7000 years, how they continue to change, and some of the challenges to manage them.
It was the first public webinar the coast team has hosted, as part of the engagement for the $48.4 million Securing the future of our coastline project.
This project will see the completion of a sand recycling pipeline from Adelaide’s northern beaches to West Beach, and a mass importation of sand from outside of Adelaide’s beach system for West Beach, together with dune restoration works.
As part of the project, a community reference group has recently been formed, following a series of preliminary information sessions held online with community groups in June.
More webinars and information sessions are planned as the project is implemented.
