After 18 rounds of what can be called the strangest footy season ever, Business Support Officer Joseph Buckley has taken out the top prize of the 2020 DEW Footy Tipping Competition.
After a hold-up at the start of the season due to COVID-19 restrictions, the competition kicked off in June when 43 tipsters paid the $30 joining fee and began the fight for a piece of the $1,290 prize pool.
A weekly prize of $30 to the tipster with the best score for the round meant tactics for a win were nothing short of interesting, with Principal Marine Scientist Simon Bryars confessing ‘I got one of my children to tip this week as I was going so badly!’ after his round 4 victory.
This year’s competition was a tight one, with just two points separating first and fifth place in the overall competition standings and our winner only sliding into the top position in the final round – talk about a nail biter!
There were five top prizes for the competition, and the final standings were:
First place – $375 – Joseph Buckley
Second place – $180 – Dave Primer
Third place – $100 – Daniel Penney
Fourth place – $65 – Andrea Cosenza
Fifth place – $30 – Angela Cosenza
The DEW Footy Tipping Competition is open to all DEW staff and their family and friends, and will be back again next year for more fun and excitement.
