COVID-19 Update – 24 August 2020
In the latest COVID update, Executive Director Sandy Carruthers thanked staff for their continued resilience, adaptability and collaboration. Staff were reminded that South Australia remains on high alert, and that how we conduct ourselves now is as important as ever. Our COVID-Safe protocols are well thought out and implemented but they require us all to remember to adhere to safe practices, especially with respect to social distancing, good hand hygiene and remaining home when at all unwell. Staff were also advised that:
- For now working arrangements continue as they are. The Chief Executive will be reviewing our current worksite arrangements at the end of this month to determine what changes, if any, will be made. DEW will continue to take our lead from the Australian and state government. DEW Executive and the Crisis Management Team are constantly monitoring and responding to the situation and will continue to keep staff informed about these decisions.
- Each branch’s decision making continues to be driven by business continuity planning. There are a diversity of roles across the agency, so this looks different for each branch, who have adapted in ways that suit their business functions, locations and the circumstances and wellbeing of their staff. It is anticipated that DEW will continue operating in ways that ensure business continuity for some time to come.
- Staff were made aware that the mobilisation of government staff continues, and is expected to increase. Extensive staffing is needed to support SAPOL and SA Health, in areas such as border permitting and checks, contact tracing, administration and reporting for testing clinics.
To support children’s mental wellbeing, the Australian Government Department of Health has released new digital resources to help parents and caregivers explain COVID-19 to children.
