Belair National Park Opportunities

Open navigation

The recent return of Belair Golf Course and Country Club to the Department for Environment and Water provides a unique opportunity to shape the site’s future as part of Belair National Park.

The site covers more than 50 hectares in the western portion of the park and includes the function centre, club rooms, workshop and gazebo.

Work is underway to prepare an expression of interest document, outlining criteria to guide community groups, non-government organisations, and businesses interested in submitting proposals for part or all of the site.

Community input and information about potential business opportunities is helping us develop the expression of interest document to ensure submissions align with community values and the content meets business needs.

It is expected that the formal expression of interest process will open for submissions in late September and will be open for 4 weeks.

Belair National Park is South Australia’s oldest national park and attracts around 500,000 visitors each year.

The park offers a variety of activities and facilities such as walking, horse riding and mountain biking, tennis courts and cricket pitches, picnic facilities, State Flora, and the heritage listed iconic Victorian residence, Old Government House. It is also home to a range of native plants and animals.

Community input

To ensure plans for the site meet the needs of the community, as well as the environment and South Australian Government, we asked the community what they value about Belair National Park and what should be considered in deciding future uses for the site.

We are compiling the feedback and survey responses received between 11 May and 30 June and this information will contribute to developing the expression of interest document. A summary of what we heard from the community will be posted once all of the feedback has been reviewed.

If you would like to provide your input on the future of the site, email DEWBelairCommunity@sa.gov.au.

Focus Group feedback

Focus groups involving local community, business, environmental and park user representatives were held in May to help guide the expression of interest process, and ensure site proposals align with community values and the prospectus meets business needs.

Feedback from the focus groups indicated:

  • a preference to enhance the existing values of the park to create greater opportunities for environmental conservation, recreation, education and tourism
  • co-location of complimentary activities is desirable, e.g. environmental precinct, recreation hub, education hub, use by community groups, cafè
  • there are divided views over a number of issues, including maintaining the site as a golf course, providing tourist accommodation and creating a dog park.
Register your business interest
