Part closure of Para Wirra Conservation Park

Parts of Para Wirra Conservation Park will be closed on the following dates due to an upgrade of the parks’ facilities:

21 September 2017 – early March 2018


Picnic Areas

  • Gawler View Picnic Area and playground
  • North Oval including toilets and carparks
  • Wirra Picnic Area including toilets and carparks

Alternative nearby Picnic Areas in Para Wirra CP

  • Limited parking, bbqs and toilets are still available at the Lake area, Hideaway Picnic Area and opposite the Information Office in Para Wirra CP  
  • An Open-space area suitable for play and picnicking is available at the Helipad Picnic Area (toilets nearby)

Alternative nearby Parks with Picnic Areas

  • Cobbler Creek Recreation Park (bbq, toilets, parking, Kites and Kestrels, playground, pump track and shared-use trails off Bridge Road, Salisbury East)
  • Anstey Hill Recreation Park (parking, toilets, and shared-use trails)
  • Brand new exciting nature playground at Morialta Conservation Park (off Stradbroke Road, Morialta)

Walking Trails and other recreational facilities

  • Lizard Rock walking trail
  • Fixed orienteering course

Alternative Walking trail options in Para Wirra CP

  • All other walking trails in the park are open
  • Explore the recently upgraded waking trail around the Para Wirra Lake which include two great water contact areas

  • Cobbler Creek Recreation Park
  • Anstey Hill Recreation Park
  • Playgrounds at Morialta Conservation Park and Belair National Park
  • Fixed Orienteering course at Belair National Park

Upgrades to the park include:

  • New picnic facilities including bbqs, toilets, shelters and trails at Gawler View Picnic Area 
  • New natureplay area at Gawler View
  • Upgrade to car parks at Gawler View
  • New campground with toilets at Wirra area
  • Upgrade of the Para Wirra CP entrance
  • Plus trail improvements, information and way marking signage upgrades, and new trail access for cyclists

These upgrades are part of the State Government’s Connecting residents with nature initiative.
